ONE FOR THE ROAD

Image
A friend of mine sent this to me and it was fun and result oriented. The mixture of notes, the speed and duration challenges the singing muscles of the  beginning singer as well as opens the vocal apparatus; making it it flexible and balanced. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HEgcC9Whui9M6eERDDGf_rpVgxB-l5Jm/view?usp=drivesdk  Drop your questions and comments here!

TRISHA'S JOURNEY SO FAR...

Week 1 Trisha was just too frightened of the higher octaves in this song, so she stopped half way...🤭 Week 6 She is a hard worker, who worked on increasing her range and singing in the mask. This enabled her hit some erstwhile "high" notes and registers...🏆 Week 12 Trisha, 12 years of age at the time of this recording, made me smile as I listened to her perform this song. The improvement is very "visible"👀👂 Watch out for this star!

TESTMONIALS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Iye lives in Ireland and has a fantastic soul voice with is soothing to listen to both when he raps and sings. It was such an experience working with me.  Tierra Dawn is a pediatrician and a very creative singer, who is blessed with a soul warming soprano. I was privileged. To work with her in preparation for her album release in September, 2020. She is one voice to look out for! Listen to what she has to say... Stephanie is a New Yorker with a passion for Spreading love and peace through her power Mezzo Soprano. Our paths crossed in 2019 and after our vocal sessions she's been soaring high and scoring major points in her career as a singer!  Mr. Steven Maduro (I call him "Pops") is one great example for any singer to emulate. He is tenacious and committed to the art of singing and every other field he belongs to! His sincere and soulful voice, which is a work in progress, has a way of embracing not just your mind but your soul. He was gracious enough to throw in a good...

DO NOT FILL THE CUP!

Image
AN ADVICE I have said on several occasions, that you should sing within your range(comfort zone) but today I counsel you, DO NOT STAY THERE TOO LONG! Make an effort to scare your fears by being audacious enough to raise the bar, wisely leave your comfort zone once in a while during practice, stretch yourself beyond your relaxed confines, reach for pitches and keys you aren't used to, go for styles that are not on your "usual" lane...just try something new. When this is safely done, you will find out that that height was not that high after all and that style was within your reach etc THE CUP So many singers do not know how to convert their breath to sound and this causes vocal fatigue and/or improper execution of notes in a phrase. EXERCISE Find a cup with a large rim, enough to accommodate your mouth, inhale deeply while maintaining good posture, cover your mouth with the cup (completely sealed) and then sing like you are singing in a crowded room.  This exercise will te...

THE BODY TELLS

LET YOUR BODY SPEAK So many singers do not pay attention to body signals,it could be due to the demands of the group they belong to or they just do not understand it. Each time your voice is about to snap, they is a warning signal and some times something triggers it. Learn to understand and recognise these signals. Some food/beverages you ingest trigger vocal fatigue while some climates don't just go well with you. Be sensitive to these signals and walk in their stride. Sometimes all you need is a little break from a routine or otherwise...just let your body tell you. *EXERCISE* DRINK ICED WATER,WARM WATER,JUICE, SOFT DRINK OR MILK, TAKE A ONE HOUR BREAK AND SING.IF YOU NOTICE DIFFICULTY AFTER TAKING ANY OF THESE, THEN YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR ENEMY LARKS. DO SAME WITH AC/ FAN,BATHING COLD/HOT WATER...ETC.

THE SINK...THE SONG

I came home one day to meet a full sink. We had water supply issues for almost a week so I was the only one able to manage the little water we had before it was restored. I carefully separated soup dishes from flats, pots from bowls, cutlery from tumblers suddenly the sink wasn't that full anymore. A "complex" song is like a full sink with so many different phrases, notes and vocal twists. But with proper #Marking (This is a way of singing that helps you save voice by audibly voicing to a section of a song and mentally singing the rest and  by partitioning the song from tasking to simple areas) Separate the tricky parts (tackle them first) from the easy parts. When you do this, you find out there is no such thing as a #Hardsong But most paramount in this process is to teach your mind that "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A HARD SONG" It could be complex but not hard.
