PARTS OF THE SINGING MACHINE 2 Understand these parts and master its function for Optimum results. Alveolar Ridge: The area just above the back of your upper front teeth (the front edge of the roof of your mouth). Articulators: The parts of the instruments that help you pronounce words----the tongue, lips, teeth and jaw. Clavicles: Also known as the collarbones, they are attached to the shoulder blades. Diaphragm: A sheet of muscle that acts as the “floor” of the rib cage. It is attached to the lowest ribs and its purpose is to pull air into the lungs. It sits like a dome that extends into the rib cage. During inhalation, it contracts (gets smaller), to draw air into the lungs. At this point a singer feels an expansion of the lower abdomen.
