DYNAMICS 2

On the flip side of pianissimo, we have the dynamic which is most common among young upcoming acts, fortissimo. It should never be confused with a higher register and unlike popular opinion and believe ive, it should not be performed with hyper abdominal impulse. Fortissimo is loud singing or a rise in volume, which is artistically produced by a free and we'll expanded inner mouth space. The throat should be relaxed and the sound allowed to resonate in the basal/head area. . Voices that are not naturally voluminous should focus first on the open VOWELS Ah & OH, making them sound large yet controlled before extending to the other vowels. Erroneously,  some shout in the place of singing with fortissimo, but there is a great world of difference. Shouting is an exaggerated and modified level of speech action while the fortissimo dynamic is singing with a louder and more resonated tone. The following are a few rules that are helping to producing a vocal fortissimo dynamic; 1)...

TIPS AND EXERCISES 1

I have been singing for over thirty years and have observed and gained enough experience to help me shape any upcoming or established singer in his /her art. Most of the tips and exercises I share are birthed from personal experience with or obsetvations. The testimonials if those who adhere to them have been positive since 1994 when I started coaching singers. Every week I will be sharing a few with you.Your feedback will be appreciated. 1. If you find out your vocal output is mostly nasal , you can apply the "bee - buzz ".  This technique creates a buzz(like that of the   bee)  in the inner mouth/head space and then applies it to all vowel production... Any question on this? Feel free to ask! 2. Please read below.... Student : Please how do I massage my throat internally without poking my fingers in there? JVC: It's simple! Try pronouncing the words  "kay" and "gay"  without sound(almost whispering) in quick succession, with rounded inner mout...

DYNAMICS

DYNAMICS Every singer must be well furnished with the art of improvisation in order to make singing not just an activity but also an experience. Now, to take improvisation and give it colour, character and modification, singing dynamics MUST be employed. So the next question would be “what is Singing dynamics?” Dynamics in singing is used to describe how loud or soft sounds are produced. The dynamics employed in a song has the capacity to build or break the song. If you observe the stars of today, you will discover that they have a very good, if not excellent sense of dynamics; to be regarded as a good singer, your dynamics must be used controlled and at calculated points. Furthermore they are used to give color to a performance. And note this, Dynamics are suitable for every vocal style! WAYS TO INCORPERATE DYNAMICS TO IMPROVE VOCAL PERFORMANCE SOFT SINGING (PIANISSIMO) This dynamic requires us to sing very soft, almost tenderly. Now, singing soft and openly, to the surpris...
IMPROVISATION To be a creatively artistic singer you must learn the art of improvisation. The art form makes the performer more intelligent and innovative as it is never pre-planned or premeditated. Improvisation is a spontaneous yet calculated addition or twist in a performance. You can improvise on expression, lyrics or melody. It is your ability to improvise that separates you from the common kitchen singer or audience. It also give a performance a certain level of #humanness and eliminates any robotic feel. Improvisation follows the flow of meaning of a song, the psychological rhythm of an audience or the emotional state of the performer as it relates to the song performed. Improvisation is a sure friend when it comes to concealing imperfections in a song/act. The best way to learn or wake up the #improviser in you is to listen to others who have mastered the art. Then you can systematically learn how to be one by following the steps below. 1) Study the song you want ro pe...

HOW TO KNOW WHAT'S RIGHT AND WRONG IN BREATH MANAGEMENT  Place a balloon between your lips, holding it in place with your teeth. Sing normally but with less emphasis on consonants. If the balloon gets inflated and pops up often, it means you are letting out excess breath. What you have to do is convert your breath to sound by allowing the head to the job of resonating and allowing the pressure on of the air on your vocal folds happen freely. There should be absolute closure of your folds; you know when this happens when you hear a 'click' sound in your ear area. The Hyoid bones anchoring the tongue and connected to the larynx is around the ear region. Have a humming background on every vowel produced, this activates the head space and converts breath to sound. Your abdominal muscles should maintain a stance that can be likened to holding your urine intermittently while using the bathroom.

THE SINGING BREATH(PART 1)

BREATHING  When you breathe normally everything is done automatically, the inhalations and the exhalation are performed without thought. On the other hand when you sing you not only need to breathe quickly but you have to exhale slowly as you sing phrases of a song, but you also need to maintain a steady sustenance. Inhalation, in singing  is simply taking in air purposefully into the lower regions of the lungs .Here some fun ways of feeling and eventually learning the proper way of breathing; For deep breathing; i) Stand up and slump over. ii) As you are slumped over feel the movement in your body as you breathe. iii) Release your neck so that your back can stay pliable for breathing. vi) Notice that when you take in air, you can feel the lower abs moving out, because they’re all flabby from being slumped over. Those of you who are really thin, you may not feel your abs move much in the beginning. That’s okay. You can still acquire great breathing habits for sing...

POSTURE FOR VOCAL STRUCTURE

Posture Posture is important to sing well. If all the parts for singing are lined up correctly, you stand a chance of getting wonderful sounds come out of your body. Knowing how to stand is not rocket science, but it may take a little adjustment on your part. If you aren’t used to standing tall all the time, you may feel a bit awkward at first. To sing efficiently, you need to line up all your body parts that are involved and get them ready to do their job with little tension as possible. If you are slumped over, you have more trouble taking the breath that you need to sing because posture and tension directly affect the muscles. One means of evaluating posture is simply standing in front of a full length mirror, noticing the way you hold your body parts especially the head, chest, hips, knees, arms and hands. After the evaluation the next step is to create and feeling the right body posture. Good posture keeps energy flowing so that your energy is not trapped in one body part and al...
