CONTEMPORARY DYNAMICS 3. 2 HAPPY NEW YEAR IN ADVANCE. This is the last post for the year 2017. We will have a better year in 2018. READ AND SHARE. RESTS/SILENCE. For most parts of your song, it is expected that you will be singing. This is a practice most accepted and known through centuries. But to spice up a song and give it a dramatic feel, in today's singing arena, some parts of the song can do with some extra rests (than factored into the original song) and in very emotion-driven performances, silence. Be careful not to over stretch any of the dynamics as this could put the audience in a state of confusion or make the song lose its efficacy. Furthermore, you can skip a beat or double a beat in a phrase to make it standout and /or give it colour. VOWEL TWIRLS Personally love this dynamic because it gives room for personalization of a song. Each vowel in a song can be made darker or brighter (depending on its message and position in a song) by a simple twist of t

DYNAMICS 3

CONTEMPORARY DYNAMICS 3. 1 PHRASING Singing a song in a single repeated pattern from start till end could be boring and tend to lose the attention of the audience. Remember audience are prone to fast and changing things/sounds . A song is like a piece of cake, its beauty and taste is in the blend of so many elements, all mixed in an orderly manner. The act of phrasing helps show off your vocal prowess as well as test your breathing stamina.it has to do with sustaining a note in a phrase or lengthening a phrase than it normally is. You can sustain a note at the end of a phrase or at a transition point (if you have back up vocalists) MOOD REFLECTION When singing a song, take note of the meaning and message of each of part of the song, there may be a part of the song that conveys a happy thought, this part should be well reflected in your vocal output; a sharper (nasal) vowel will communicate gaiety to the audience; and vise-versa, for a sad or emotional part/aspect of a song. Most

Those nerves!!

CONTROL THOSE NERVES You can never completely calm the nerves, even Michael Jackson opted out of performing on American Idol because of nerves. Yes, it can never be eliminated but we can put it under control to an extent.  Here are some of the oldest trick in the game is finding a focal: either a focal point, focal person, or property. *  A focal point is where the eyes will be fixed upon a point in the background,  with them roving intermittently to give the impression of general eye communication. What this does is to help you avoid the soul of people(their eyes) peering into yours and breaking down any defence you have for performance. * A focal person is when you have a friend or relative in the crowd and you fix your eyes on that one person you have faith in or from whom you can draw inspiration and confidence.  You do not need friends who constantly make fun of your voice or of your person. The tendency to think they are making a joke out of your performance, is high.

NEED TO KNOW

Image
YOU NEED TO KNOW 1. The next song you sing is not just another song... It's always the song. Explanation, :never take your preparation, warm up and sound check, unseriously(even if you have to sing before a friend for critic purposes) 2. Warm ups are like your  quiet tme, VERY NECESSARY. you communicate with your voice and song for the sake of intimacy. You know every curve bend and how to technically approach them. 3. Watch your previous performances in order to note errors, try to improve and /to eliminate a repetition. 4. Respect your ears they are elders to your voice. If you don't hear correctly you will not sing correctly. Listen and listen. In a setting with backup singers listen to them just as you listen to the key board, sometimes they are good sound/key directors. 5. Be confident but don't over do it. Letting people know you got game shows you ain't got game. 6. Do not be above correction, humble yourself and learn. Get a vocal coach to see you thr

THE BEST SINGER

Image
I would like to recommend a singer you must strive to be and sound like. This singer will help you express your deepest emotions and communicate them freely without restrictions. This singer is one who has personalized abilities which can not be replicated with an unnoticed exactitude. This singers voice is one in a million and has the ability to play with it at will and cause it to take various personalities, emotions, tone colors and volumes. This very much talked about singer is YOU!Yes, YOU! You have so much in your throat that society has made you undermine and downplay on. Please do not waste your time, talent and energy trying to imitate another person. Work with their skills as a guide but don't be them, because you can never be! Enjoy this song I released way back in 2003.Listen for errors and high points.

TIPS 2 (Q&A)

TIPS 2 (Q&A) * Are you allowed to eat cold foods before singing/ vocal warm ups? The most important thing is that your throat does not feel dry. Thus, having something to drink before singing is useful. Most singers prefer something lukewarm, preferably of not alcoholic nature. Tea or warm herbal drinks are often ideal. * What if your voice cracks? Will you still be able to get to the note eventually? If you look downwards while singing a high note, it prevents voice cracks, in most cases. If you keep practicing looking down, raising your face higher every time, you will get to the high note without your voice cracking. If this doesn't help, don't worry. You will get it eventually if you keep practicing. * I am in my 70s and can sing everything except some high notes. What can I do to improve my range? Try strengthening your lungs as much as you can. Different postures and body positions can help you find the higher notes too, so do some fitness exercises to stay
