DO NOT FILL THE CUP!

AN ADVICE

I have said on several occasions, that you should sing within your range(comfort zone) but today I counsel you, DO NOT STAY THERE TOO LONG! Make an effort to scare your fears by being audacious enough to raise the bar, wisely leave your comfort zone once in a while during practice, stretch yourself beyond your relaxed confines, reach for pitches and keys you aren't used to, go for styles that are not on your "usual" lane...just try something new. When this is safely done, you will find out that that height was not that high after all and that style was within your reach etc

THE CUP

So many singers do not know how to convert their breath to sound and this causes vocal fatigue and/or improper execution of notes in a phrase.

EXERCISE

Find a cup with a large rim, enough to accommodate your mouth, inhale deeply while maintaining good posture, cover your mouth with the cup (completely sealed) and then sing like you are singing in a crowded room.

This exercise will teach you how to sing in your mask and learn to convert your breath to sound rather than fill the cup with air (which is unconverted and wasted)  till it causes the cheeks to inflate.

Doing this exercise frequently and recording your progress will assure your transition from an ordinary singer to a well informed and properly guided on!
